Entertainment for all generations at the Dubrovnik Winter Festival

The third weekend of the 5th Dubrovnik Winter Festival brings entertainment programmes for all generations! Apart from the traditional Advent candle lighting, there will be a concert of spiritual music, followed by the concert of the band Detour and the highly anticipated Christmas Tale, where around 1500 presents will be given out to children, as well as many other fun winter events. This will be another Winter Festival weekend not to be missed!

Organised by the Effatha prayer community and the Dubrovnik Winter Festival, the concert of spiritual music by Alan Hržica and the band will take place in Stradun on 14 December at 20:00. This charity concert is organised in collaboration with the Dubrovnik Bishopric Caritas organisation, and the income goes to three Dubrovnik families in need.

After one of the greatest concerts of their career, which took place last Saturday at the Dom sportova sporting arena in Zagreb, where they also promoted their new, fourth studio album Tourdetour, excellent musicians from the band Detour are coming to the Dubrovnik Winter Festival. Their concert will take place in Stradun on Saturday, 15 December at 21:00. This year, Detour was again nominated for the Porin Award by the music industry professionals, this time for their song Biram in three categories: Hit of the Year, Best Group Performance with a Vocal and Best Video. Before the concert, the third Advent candle will be lit, the candle of joy, as part of the programme Your Light Gives Me Hope on Saturday at 19:30 in front of the Rector's Palace and the Cathedral. This Saturday, prayer will be led by St Peter's Parish of Boninovo, and Deputy Mayor Jelka Tepšić will light the third candle on the Advent wreath.

The Dubrovnik Tourist Board is organising Christmas Tale as part of the Dubrovnik Winter Festival programme and it will take place on Sunday, 16 December at 15:00 in Stradun. Since Christmas is also about giving, around 1500 presents will traditionally be given out to children, which will be accompanied by music and entertainment programme! Smiles on children's faces are the biggest gift for all who prepare and give out those presents. 

DOBRISSIMO Puppet Company, ASTER Cultural Society will perform the show Magic Beans two days in a row, on Saturday, 15 December at 17:00 at the Bursa Theatre, and on Sunday at 11:00.

The premiere of children’s show Hedgehog's Home by KOLARIN Theatre Company takes place on Sunday at 17:30 at the Marin Držić Theatre. The theatre announced that there are no more available tickets for children's shows.

The North Pole Station in Luža also offers entertainment programmes. Playroom with Tintilinići Dubrovnik children's animators takes place on Saturday from 16:00 to 19:00.

Colourful Winter in Lapad Bay programme brings art and comic strip workshop and science group workshop organised by the Youth Centre, films from the Dubrovnik Film Festival and the performance of Convivo and Step&Jazz dance groups, while the programme planned for Saturday will take place on Sunday, 16 December from 10:00 to 12:00 due to bad weather.

Christmas Afternoon in Mokošica brings magic tricks, balloon show, lots of dancing and fun and taking photos with Santa on Saturday from 15:30 to 18:00. The programme takes place in the Advent tent by the Kiss cafe.

Christmas at the Salon will take place on Sunday at 18:00. The programme led by Sanja Dražić and Paola Dražić Zekić includes Dubrovnik Children's Choir and guests: Marin Držić House Renaissance workshop, Domine Chamber Trio and Nena Ćorak. Bus departs from Pile at 17:30. On Saturday at 18:00, the Christmas classics film programme brings the cult film Gremlins, a little bit scary comedy about strange little furry creatures you mustn't feed after midnight because they become naughty. Parents should keep in mind that the film is appropriate for older children. Younger children can see Frozen the day before, on Saturday at 14:00. 

 

Traditional Dalmatian klapa songs are sung every weekend from Brsalje across Stradun to Gundulić Square, and next Sunday morning klapa Poklisari will be entertaining the citizens. With live music programme, food from Christmas kiosks, free rides on Libertas buses on all city lines (including lines 26, 28 and 35) from 17:00 until the last departure in the evening, X-MAS BUS which operates on the route Main Bus Station-Grawe-Pile-Vojnović-Lapad Post Office and Lapad Post Office-Vojnović-Pile- Main Bus Station, XMAS Train which operates in Lapad Bay, ice skating rink on Lapad Bay tennis courts and variety of other programmes brought to you by the Dubrovnik Winter Festival, there will be lots of opportunities to have a great time this weekend!
